This year will be the first that fans of Prince will celebrate his birthday without him here. Local creative professionals are coming together to create a celebration fit to honor the legendary artist. The Ultimate Prince Birthday Bash will be held on June 7th, 2016; on what would have been Prince’s 58th birthday. The festive night will include a concert and a fundraiser for one of the causes Prince supported, Yes We Code.

Houston, TX  May 17th, 2016 – On what will be the first time his birthday has been celebrated since his passing, Prince fans in the Houston area creative community have come together to commemorate the icon’s talent through this event. Several local musical acts will perform Prince’s hit songs during the concert portion of the evening. The hosting venue for The Ultimate Prince Birthday Bash is Lumen Lounge, located at 5020 Kirby Drive in Houston, Texas. The luxurious venue in the heart of Houston’s West University neighborhood has been the backdrop for several exciting events over the years. “Tuesday is typically one of our biggest nights, we anticipate this bash on Prince’s birthday will be no exception,” says Lumen Lounge owner Joe Arbeely.

A Hollywood worthy scene will set the stage thanks to award winning producer and photographer Scott Hebert. Hebert, whose work has featured celebrities from Forrest Whitaker to Gabrielle Union, will be acting as Creative Art Director for The Ultimate Prince Birthday Bash. He won’t give much information about what he has up his sleeves but says that guests will “not want to miss this”. This modest mogul of the film world is well known for being flamboyant with his shows. He recently made use of a live camel for his model to ride in on for the grand entrance of an acclaimed fashion show in houston. With his creativity, and the Prince legacy to live up to, the artistic aspects of this event are sure to be extravagant.

In addition to being entertained, attendees will be able to donate to the evening’s highlighted cause – the Yes We Code initiative of The Dream Corps charity. Yes We Code was inspired by a conversation Prince had with the charity’s founder, activist Van Jones. This cause was greatly supported by Prince since its inception. The program teaches low-income youth coding skills, preparing them for technology careers that may otherwise be out of reach. Doors will open at 7:00pm for a social segment complete with art show and fundraiser portions. The concert will begin at 10:00pm. Guests have been advised to dress as if Prince were in attendance! The dress code is listed as “Attire: Impressive and Innovative”.

“We are going to have fun. This is a party, a celebration of life,” says Shauntel Jones; Executive Producer of this event. Jones is owner and Educational Director of Touch Makeup Academy, and a staple in the fashion and entertainment industry. She was inspired to organize the event after losing a dear friend and colleague; a fellow arts supporter and consultant who regularly held events. He was killed on April 4th, 2016.  Prince  passed a few weeks later, driving home the sentiment of life being short. So celebrating life, while making a difference, is the plan.

A celebration is indeed in store. So far confirmed performers include The C.I.T.Y., Greg K Malonson II, Ashley Toman, Ahmed No Egos and the No Egos Movement, Zachary-Dèvon and Ki The Artist. Tickets are $20 pre-sale or $25 at the door. A discount for couples is available. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared to donate to the Yes We Code initiative.
